Lead – Blood and Urine Testing

Consistent with O. Reg. 671/92 of the French Language Services Act, laboratory testing information on this page is only available in English because it is scientific or technical in nature and is for use only by qualified health care providers and not by members of the public.

As the result of a test mandate review and recent equipment failure, Public Health Ontario (PHO) Laboratory has discontinued trace metal testing as of October 25, 2019.

The following testing will no longer be performed at the PHO Laboratory:

Aluminum (serum, plasma and urine)

Lead (whole blood and urine)

Zinc protoporphyrin (whole blood)

To ensure continued service as required, submitters are advised to submit specimens directly to alternative test providers available within Ontario.

A list of alternate providers can be obtained from contacting the Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories (OAML)
