Chancroid

Chancroid is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection caused by Haemophilus ducreyi. It is rare in Ontario. Symptoms can include painful genital ulcers and painful and swollen regional lymph nodes. Symptoms appear up to two weeks after exposure. Having chancroid can increase the risk of HIV spread. Chancroid can be prevented through safer sex practices and treated with antibiotics.
